Gun Shy

Michele_Leavitt

This poem grew out of some thoughts about how people (me included) who’ve survived systemic violence are dealing (or not) with the current administration’s exaltation of racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-Semitic, misogynist individuals and organizations. It was originally published in Rise Up Review. Go show them some love — they publish a new poem every day on their site, a place for “the poetry of opposition.”

  1. Great written visualization! Thank you for sharing. This is my very first comment, as is my first day on wordpress and posting my first poem. I’m stumbling in the dark for sure, only hoping to do something right 🙂

  2. I’ve been seeing/reading a lot of Trump-related articles in creative writing. I can’t say I know Trump but with I’ve been getting, ours is not far different from yours.

With us, violence has taken a front seat, humanity at the back. And is it for the common good? I do not know.

    Thanks for this.

    Sincerely,

    The Ugly Writer

    1. Thanks for your kind words! I do not offer feedback here, though.

A great way to get feedback on your work is to start a poetry workshop where you live. I started one by putting a notice up in a bookstore, and it’s still going strong 10 years later!
